Special Olympics

Organizations such as Special Olympics Kingston and the Exceptional People's Olympiad are nonprofit organizations dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition. These groups offer children and adults year-round training and competition with a vision to help bring all persons with disabilities into the larger society under conditions whereby they are accepted, respected and given the chance to show their talents. Kingston has always been supportive of Special Olympic and Paralympic events and have proven to be gracious hosts, have supported fundraising efforts and contributed to the overall success of the events. In 2010, Kingston was the proud host of the Parasport Ontario Winter Championships.
