Art Galleries
Kingston was the birthplace of the first artist-run centre in Canada, The Modern Fuel Art Gallery which three decades later is still showcasing exemplary contemporary and multi-disciplinary arts exhibitions. We were also the birthplace of the first Arts Council in Canada which organizes an Annual Juried Art Show, the bi-annual national Kingston Canada Portrait Prize and produces a Fine Arts & Craft Guide. With such a strong artistic base, it is not surprising that we also offer numerous commercial galleries, artisans shops and studio tours for patrons to visit and enjoy. We are currently updating our searchable database. We apologize for the inconvenience - please check back soon. |
Artists and art lovers will not be disappointed in Kingston's cultural offerings - if anything, you'll need to plan an extra day to experience it all. Home to the Agnes Etherington Art Centre whose permanent collection is one of the most notable in Canada, the "Agnes" features an extensive collection of historical and contemporary Canadian art; one of the finest public African art collections in Canada; and the Bader Collection of 17th-century Dutch masters in the Rembrandt school.
